Open for Public Comment: Nation’s First Regional Ocean Plan in the Northeast

The Draft Northeast Ocean Plan is now open for public comment through July 25. The plan aims to guide decisions about crowded New England waters in a region experiencing emerging demands for ocean uses such as offshore energy and aquaculture. The Northeast Regional Planning Body, composed of federal, state, and tribal governments and the New England Fishery Management Council, drafted the plan, which features unprecedented data access through the Northeast Ocean Data Portal to guide regulatory and management decisions. The final plan will be submitted to the National Ocean Council this fall after considering public comments gleaned from online and written sources, as well as nine public meetings in the region.
