Changing Islands

Students examine and discuss forces of nature that lead to the slow or fast changes to an island. Students then focus on how coral reefs play a part in island formation. They view a PowerPoint presentation describing environmental factors necessary to promote the healthy growth and development of a coral reef, and how, eventually, an atoll, barrier reef, and fringing reef are formed. Students play a game to help them understand how fragile coral reef development is.
