Acquiring Land to Foster Community Resilience in Homer, Alaska’s Bridge Creek Watershed

Federal Funding: $1,500,000
This award funds the acquisition of at least 100 acres of watershed land that will be incorporated into the Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve to permanently foster the long-term quality and quantity of the primary drinking water source for the City of Homer, Alaska. The project will also provide natural stormwater management and protect habitat for significant bird and fish species, including nursery habitat for juvenile salmon, which are highly valued by the local, commercial, and recreational fishing communities.
