Five Hundred Rain Barrels Conserve Water

Over the past three years, more than 500 participants have built their own rain barrels at 42 workshops held by the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve and Georgia Coastal Management Program. The rain barrels have spread the water conservation message far and wide through their installment at schools, government buildings, businesses, and homes. This effort is also getting the message across about other reserve priorities such as water quality, stormwater management, and habitat protection. The requests continue to grow for more rain barrels and workshops. (2016)
