Partnerships Improve Lives and the Community

Through partnerships, the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve positively impacts the coast.

The reserve’s work with the state’s Sea Grant program is funding two fellowships that will expand the “healthy coastal ecosystem” research for the state. The reserve’s monitoring data is being used to investigate how Hurricane Joaquin affected salinity along the East Coast through a partnership with NOAA’s Integrated Ocean Observing System. An academic partnership with the local community college gives graphic art students real-world design experience and provides the reserve with promotional designs for three events. And reserve staff members are educating University of Delaware software engineering students about estuaries—the students, in return, created educational computer games for the reserve’s visitor center.
