Visualizing Locally Relevant Sea Level Rise Scenarios
Saipan is highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change and variability, especially rising sea levels. Coastal managers there sought a means of analyzing and communicating coastal flooding scenarios.
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Division of Coastal Resources Management, incorporated several NOAA products into this effort to assess vulnerability, including the Sea Level Rise Viewer, NOAA’s land cover data, and local land use and cadastral information. The resulting coastal flooding maps and analyses are being integrated into local and regional planning efforts. (2016)
