Acting Chief, Business Operations Division
John King is acting chief of the Business Operations Division at NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management.
King has been engaged in coastal management for more than 25 years. He began his federal career as a program specialist for NOAA’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management. In that role, he worked with California and Alaska on implementation of the Coastal Zone Management Act.
King also served as NOAA’s Pacific and Great Lakes regional manager and as chief of the Coastal Programs Division. Before coming to NOAA, King worked in the field of offshore oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. He continues to have an interest in offshore energy and ocean planning.
King holds a bachelor’s degree in geology and zoology from Duke University and a master’s degree in marine affairs from the University of Rhode Island.
