Overview

This index measures and maps the social vulnerability of coastal counties in regard to environmental hazards. Geographic variations are highlighted, as are differences in preparation, response, and recovery times, and areas where natural resources could reduce vulnerability. American Community Survey 2006-2010 data were processed at the Census tract level to create this data product. The methodology was developed by the University of South Carolina’s Hazards and Vulnerability Research Institute.
