Overview

This database offers the most detailed level of vector-based information on soil types and distributions available digitally. The resource consists of georeferenced digital map data, computerized tabular attribute data, and associated metadata, and defines soil characteristics, properties, and potential limitations or suitability for various uses.

A gridded format (gSSURGO) is also available. This file geodatabase has the capacity to store much more data and thus greater spatial extents than the traditional product, which makes it possible to offer these data in statewide or even conterminous United States (CONUS) tiles.
